Technology to stop the crime

New Yorkers will soon be able to send mobile-phone photos and videos when reporting a crime to the city's emergency call centres.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the high-tech initiative in his State of the City speech, saying it was "something no other city in the world is doing.''
"To build stronger trust and cooperation between the public and the police, we're ... going to empower more New Yorkers to step forward and join the fight against crime,'' Bloomberg said.
"If you see a crime in progress or a dangerous building condition you'll be able to transmit images to 911 or online to nyc.gov,'' he added, referring to the phone number American dial when reporting an emergency.
