A robotic fly was created
A robotic fly was created by Researchers at Harvard, the robotic fly could one day be used for covert surveillance and detecting toxic chemicals.
A life-size, robotic fly has taken flight at Harvard University. Weighing only 60 milligrams, with a wingspan of three centimeters, the tiny robot's movements are modeled on those of a real fly.
The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is funding Wood's research in the hope that it will lead to stealth surveillance robots for the battlefield and urban environments.
Other researchers have built robots that mimic insects, but this is the first two-winged robot built on such a small scale that can take off using the same motions as a real fly.
At the moment, Wood's fly is limited by a tether that keeps it moving in a straight, upward direction. The researchers are currently working on a flight controller so that the robot can move in different directions.

RoboSwift is a micro airplane fitted with shape shifting wings, inspired by the common swift, one of nature’s most efficient flyers.
The micro airplane will have unprecedented wing characteristics; the wing geometry as well as the wing surface area can be adjusted continuously. This makes RoboSwift more maneuverable and efficient. Resembling the common swift, RoboSwift will be able to go undetected while using its three micro cameras to perform surveillance on vehicles and people on the ground. Furthermore, it can be employed to observe swifts in flight, thus enabling new biological research.
RoboSwift will have a span of 50 cm span and 80 grams weight. It can follow a group of swifts up to 20 minutes and perform ground surveillance up to one hour thanks to its lithium-polymer batteries that power the electromotor, which drives a propeller.

A double-amputee athlete finished in second place
I had the pleasure of watching an amazing happening , Oscar Pistorius, a double-amputee athlete who runs using carbon-fibre transtibial artificial limbs became the first disabled athlete to compete officially in an able-bodied race last Friday, taking on club runners in the 400m at the Golden Gala in Rome and finishing a remarkable second place.
But, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) has serious concerns that his artificial legs might actually give him an unfair advantage. The federation has been using various cameras to study Pistorius' running motion and want to get him into the lab for further analysis.
An important point is that Pistorius runs the second half of his races faster than the first, something that is very rare of among regular athletes. Perhaps his prosthetic limbs allow him to build up enough momentum during the first half of the race to conserve energy for the second half. Pistorius and his coaching team claim that say he simply needs more energy to start running.

The four-storey pyre is due to be set alight tonight at the start of loyalist celebrations of the Battle of the Boyne.
But some locals in Ballycraigy, County Antrim, say the man-made mountain of tyres and pallets is a major risk to health and should be dismantled. They say it could collapse dangerously and give off toxic fumes when on fire.
One onlooker said: 'The heat from it would be tremendous, you only have to think what would happen if it collapsed towards the houses, it would be pandemonium.'Gary Davison, fire chief in Ballymena, said: 'There is a danger of young people drinking and smoking inside these dens and there have been incidents where young children have been involved and gotten burned.'

Was launched the new Skype version for Linux. Skype is a P2P VoIP software for computers running a Linux-based operating system. It will give Linux users the opportunity to make free phone calls via the Internet worldwide.
Skype for Linux is officially available in the same 27 languages as Skype for Windows. Loading custom languages in Skype for Linux and translating it by users is not yet possible, but this feature is upcoming.
